So, if that&#8217;s you, read on.<br \/>\nLook down at your legs when seated, and you are looking at your Quadricep muscles. Muscles of upper leg\" width=\"185\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sbrsport.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image1.jpg?w=338&amp;ssl=1 338w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sbrsport.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image1.jpg?resize=185%2C300&amp;ssl=1 185w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 185px) 100vw, 185px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nRectus femoris<br \/>\nVastus medialis<br \/>\nVastus lateralis<br \/>\nVastus intermedius.<\/p>\n<p>These originate from the pelvis and thigh bone (femur) and attach to the shin bone (tibia) via the kneecap (patella).<\/p>\n<p>Your quads straighten your legs while walking, kicking, cycling, running, swimming etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two things can happen:<\/strong><br \/>\n1. The muscle can stiffen, fatigue and develop some really sore areas.<br \/>\n2. One or more of the quads can tear; this is known as a strain. The rectus femoris is particularly at risk from strains. When one or more parts of the quadriceps muscle tear, the condition is known as a quadriceps strain.<\/p>\n<p>Muscles strains range from Grade 1 to a Grade 3 tears.<\/p>\n<p>Grade 1 Quadriceps Tear: a small number of fibers are torn resulting in some pain, but allowing full function.<br \/>\nGrade 2 Quadriceps Tear: a significant number of fibers are torn with moderate loss of function.<br \/>\nGrade 3 Quadriceps Tear: all muscle fibers are ruptured resulting in major loss of function. The majority of quadriceps strains are grade 2 tears.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Causes of a quadriceps issue:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The muscle can become tired and tight from endurance sports such as swimming, cycling and running. Immediate, appropriate treatment in patients with a quadriceps strain is essential to ensure a speedy recovery. Once the condition is chronic, healing slows significantly resulting in markedly increased recovery times and an increased likelihood of future recurrence.<\/p>\n<p>So, give them a break for a few days. You need to be able to move without pain before resuming your\u00a0training schedule.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0mix of massage, mobility band treatment,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sbrsport.co.za\/2018\/05\/06\/hypervolt-percussion-machine\/\">percussion treatment<\/a> and kinesiology tape are beneficial.
